Sri Dalada Maligawa


Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of the ancient royal residence Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.
Bhikkhus of the two chapters of Malwatte and Asgiriya conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily:  at dawn, at noon and in the evenings

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage



Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage. Pinnawala is notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.Pinnawela orphanage is situated northwest of the town Kegalle.halfways between capital of srilanka colombo and kandy.The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was first established by the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife. Conservation in 1975 for feeding and providing care and sanctuary to orphaned baby elephants that were found in the wild.The orphanage was primarily designed to afford care and protection to the many baby elephants found in the wild without their mothers. In most of these cases the mother had either died or been killed. In some instances the baby had fallen into a pit and in others the mother had fallen in and died. The orphanage was Initially located at the Wilpattu National Park, then shifted to the tourist complex at Bentota and then to the Dehiwala Zoo. From the Zoo it was shifted to Pinnawala village on a 25-acre (10 ha) coconut plantation adjacent to the Maha Oya River.In 1978,the orphanage was taken over by the Department of National Zoological Gardens Sri Lanka.The Pinnawala Orphanage has since become a tourist attraction In 1982 an elephant breeding program was launched.now many elephants living here.
The orphanage is open to the public daily .many visitors all over the world come to visit this Elephant Orphanage daily. Tourists can observe the bathing elephants from the broad river bank as the herd interacts socially, bathing and playing. There are only a few elephant orphanages in the world.present Pinnawela has become one of the bigger orphanages and well known elephant orphanage.

Kandy (Ancient Senkadagala)

Kandy (Ancient Senkadagala) is the last capital of the Sinhala Monarchy the History of which goes back
to at least five centuries before the beginning of the Common Era. The city is surrounded by a ring
 of mountain ranges and Sri Lanka’s largest river Mahaweli Ganga.Kandy enjoys a salubrious climate and
still breathes the ancient lifestyle of the people. Today, Kandy is a city of many attractions. Its
 natural beauty with misty mountains, verdant slopes, landscapes with urban rain forests consorted by
 a congenial climate with temperatures ranging from 20-25C around the year.
The heritage of Kandy, Architecture, Sculpture, painting, Dance and Music, all such cultural traditions
 are endemic to Sri Lanka.Kandy remains the home for all denominations of major world religions.Buddhism,
 Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and there subdivisions. Buddhism plays a significant role in Kandy with
the two main Monastic orders, Malwatte and Asgiriya fraternities together with numerous temples of the
 Country attached to them. The Temple of the Scared Tooth Relic constitutes the premier Buddhist
Institution of Sri Lanka and remains the cynosure of the world Buddhist and is a great tourist attraction.
 It is the highest venerated religious center with a very long cultural heritage.

Anuradhapura
















Anuradhapura  is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital  city of North Central Province, Sri Lanka and the capital of Anuradhapura District. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. It was the third capital of the Kingdom of Rajarata,following the kingdoms of Tambapanni and Upatissa Nuwara.The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. The city lies 205 km north of the current capital Colombo in Sri Lanka's North Central Province,on the banks of the historic Malvathu Oya. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and one of the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.It is believed that from the fourth century BC until the beginning of the 11th century AD it was the capital of the Sinhalese. During this period it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles

Sigiriya Sri Lanka





Sigiriya Rock Fortress is an ancient palace situated in  Matale District near to Dambulla in the Central Province in Sri Lanka.The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a Rock Fortress  widely known as Sigiriya   nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle,this Rock Fortress was selected by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his newly build kindom.He built his palace on the rock fortress and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes.this frescoes are great historical frescoes.On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from meaning  "Sihagiri" (the Lion Rock). The kingdom and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used asa Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.most of the  visitors visit this great historical palace

Pinnawala zoo


Pinnawala Open Zoo (also called Pinnawala Zoo) is a zoological
garden in Pinnawala,Sri Lanka, which is situated closer to
the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. This is the first open-air zoo in Sri Lanka
and second zoo in Sri Lanka after Dehiwala zoo.

The Pinnawala zoo is home for the many endemic animals in Sri Lanka. The constructions are still underway.the crocodile and sloth bear ranges are still in construction. There are internal road network throughout the zoo.
